How I Teach

Enriching your Child's Learning

I love working with children and adults, one to one, helping and inspiring them to learn how to take control of their learning. I work to their strengths. I find great satisfaction in supporting children and their parents, through literacy and numeracy, to help the children to achieve and to feel the wonderful rush of success. I also work with children on study skills, touch typing, phonetics, mind mapping, creating games and cards to reinforce information. With adults, the outcome is the same, however the process will differ depending on their circumstances. I have specialised training in Dyslexia – words – and Dyscalculia – numbers - and so much else in between, as well as being a teacher. It is a group effort and I communicate with the schools, teachers, parents and carers, as well as with the student, to enrich their learning experience.

21st century definition of dyslexia -

Dyslexia influences as many as 1 in 5 people and is a genetic difference in an individual’s ability to learn and process information. As a result, dyslexic individuals have differing abilities, with strengths in creative, problem-solving and communication skills and challenges with spelling, reading and memorising facts.

Generally, a dyslexic cognitive profile will be uneven when compared to a neurotypical cognitive profile. This means that dyslexic individuals really do think differently.

Traditional benchmarking disadvantages dyslexics, measuring them against the very things they find challenging.

Ignacio Estrada

“If children can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” Ignacio Estrada

“Whenever people talk about dyslexia, it’s important to know that some of the smartest people in the world, major owners of companies, are dyslexic. We just see things differently, so that’s an advantage.”
